Thursday, November 19 2009 - London Runner 4th Overall at Ontario Cross Country Championships

The London Runner Distance Club was firing on all cylinders last Sunday en route to placing 4th overall at the Ontario Cross Country Championships in King City. Finishing only behind the well-established UTTC, Newmarket, and Toronto Olympic clubs, this oustanding result firmly establishes LRDC as one of the top competitive distance running groups in the province. Athletes and teams scored points for their respective clubs by finishing in the top-8 within each of 10 race divisions. As one of the largest groups in the province, it was only fitting that London Runner had athletes representing the club in every single division. Club athletes and teams finishing top-8 in Ontario were:

Midget Boys Team - 6th place (Aneel Mawji, Sameem Javeed, Shane Roberts, Stephen Kelly, Chris Taylor, Devon Nelson)

Youth Girls Team - 5th place (Kaitlyn Komarnicky, Emily Kruger, Grace Hartman, Erin Yungblut, Kayla Duncan, Romy Scheele, Carolyn Schaerer)

Youth Boys Team - 4th place (Max Holden, Aaron Hendrikx, Eric Barry, Pat Hartman, Jochem Roelen, Jeremy Granger, Luke Rachar, Dylan Dowling)

Junior Girls Team - 1st place (Laura Walker, Jennifer Roberts, Cynthia Hill, Emily Yungblut)

Laura Walker - 3rd place Junior Girls

Junior Boys Team - 4th place (Jeremy Walsh, Ian Turnbull, Ben Procter, David Marquez)

Stephaney Fay - 8th place Senior Women

Senior Mens Team - 4th place (Chris Nagle, Adrian Walton, Nathan de Witt, Barry Biner)

Chris Nagle - 5th place Senior Men

Adrian Walton - 6th place Senior Men

Post-Race Quotes

"It was definitely my best provincial race so far. I felt good, both mentally before the race and physically during it. it's nice to see that all the hard work and training has paid off, not only for myself, but also for our team and our club overall." –Max Holden, 15th place in Youth Boys race

“This has been another successful Ontario XC Championship. This is my third Ontario XC team medal while I've been with London Runner. This race was a good way to enter Junior Nationals confident and feeling good.” -Laura Walker, bronze medalist in Junior Girls race

"It was great to have three guys from our training group up there in the lead pack. I think it really helped those of us who felt a bit off keep things together and have solid races." -Adrian Walton, 6th place in Senior Mens race

"The course made a man out of me. The LRDC crew looks to be moving in the right direction heading into Nationals. Guelph should be exciting." -Chris Nagle, 5th place in Senior Mens race

"I do not think that my quads will ever recover from that course! I'm a little disappointed that I let the TOC guys get away from me when they made their move at 6k, but I was really focused on the primary goal of beating my training partners. I will now strut about, cock of the walk, at LRDC practices and social functions." -quips the jovial Rob Kitz (UTTC), 4th place in Senior Mens race

"I'm extremely proud of this group and what they accomplished this weekend. The atmosphere amongst the group on Sunday was just incredible. I hope we can carry this positive momentum into the Canadian Championships where we will continue to follow our mantra of having fun and running fast." -Head Coach Steve Weiler

Look for video coverage of the 2009 Ontario Cross Country Championships on londonrunner.ca within the next week. On Sunday November 28th the LRDC crew will take on the best in Canada at the 2009 AGSI Canadian Cross Country Championships in Guelph.
