Paul was raised in Chatham and began running in late high school. During his four years at the University of Windsor, he developed into a strong steeplechaser and cross country runner. In his last year at Windsor he made it to the CIS’s as an individual and placed 9th, in addition to winning a few OUAA track titles. After his university career he continued to develop as a runner and qualified for the Canadian track championships for 10 consecutive years until 1990. During that time he was also a member of a team that won the Canadian cross country team championship.
Through his late 30’s he continued to race regularly on the roads and ventured into coaching. Now in his 50s, Paul focuses on guiding the London Runner 'Roadie' group and assists in other ways whenever he can.
